SPMA seeks new Assistant Treasurer and Assistant Secretary

Monday 13 April 2020

SPMA is seeking an Assistant Treasurer and Assistant Secretary.

The Secretary, Emma Dwyer, and Treasurer, Kerry Massheder-Rigby, will be standing down from their respective roles at the AGM in December 2020, and so we are seeking an Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer to shadow and assist Emma and Kerry in their roles, with a view to taking over the Secretary and Treasurer roles in December.

SPMA Council carries out much of its business during quarterly Council meetings at locations across Britain - reasonable travel expenses for attendance are reimbursed. By arrangement Council members can also participate in meetings remotely by Skype. As the Society for Post-Medieval Archaeology is a registered charity, the Members of Council are its trustees; they ensure that the charity is running well and does what it was set up to do. You can find out more about being a charity trustee on the Charity Commission website.

The Assistant Secretary will assist and shadow the Secretary in circulating news to members, setting agendas and keeping minutes of Council, organising the annual Geoff Egan Memorial Lecture and AGM, and keeping the organisation's records with the Charity Commission and Companies House up to date.

The Assistant Treasurer will assist and shadow the Treasurer in ensuring that the society's accounts are kept up date and are audited by our accountants each year, receiving payments and paying suppliers, and ensuring good financial planning.

If you would like to find out more about these roles and what is involved, email Emma Dwyer at secretary@spma.org.uk or Kerry Massheder-Rigby at treasurer@spma.org.uk
