SPMA seeks two new Ordinary Members of Council

Wednesday 27 July 2016

There are two vacancies for Ordinary Members (3-year term) on the SPMA Council to start in December 2016. Council Members must also be members of the SPMA, and generally we are keen to maintain a strong balance on Council between different sectors and interest groups in the discipline, such as academics, museum professionals, members of heritage organisations, and commercial archaeologists.

SPMA Council carries out much of its business during quarterly Council meetings at locations across Britain - reasonable travel expenses for attendance are reimbursed. Skype can be set up for Council members located outside of the UK. As the Society for Post-Medieval Archaeology is a registered charity, the Members of Council are its trustees; they ensure that the charity is running well and does what it was set up to do. You can find out more about being a charity trustee on the Charity Commission website.

Interested in standing for election? In order to consider potential applicants, we would like you to provide a summary of your qualifications/professional background and experience, and what you feel you could bring to a Council role. Please send this statement to the SPMA’s Secretary at secretary@spma.org.uk at your earliest convenience, and ideally by 16th September 2016. All of the candidates will be considered by Council at our September Council meeting, and we will make a recommendation of our preferred candidates to the AGM at the Society of Antiquaries on 12th December. Any SPMA member can also put themsleves up for election at the AGM, by submitting a nomination to the Secretary 21 days in advance of the meeting.
